However, shortly after 1800 GMT, several WhatsApp users said on social media that they were able to again send messages on the platform. Instagram also came back after about an hour. All three sites belong to US social giant Facebook, which attributed the outage to unspecified “technical issues” and apologized to users. The Facebook-owned apps, which have some three billion users worldwide, report occasional outages, including one last July, which often spark an array of comments on other social platforms.

Police nab notorious cultist, three others for murder

The police in Delta said it has arrested an alleged notorious cultist suspected to be a member of the Aiye Confraternity implicated in the murder of Abowa Osawe. The suspect, Andrew a.k.a Pounds was arrested following the confessions of four other gang members in police custody. Delta Police boss, Dr Mohammed Ali in a signed statement, Thursday, said the arrest was in collaboration with men of the local vigilance group in Sapele. According to the statement, the victim, Osawe Abowa, was attacked and shot along Shell Road, Sapele by a group of four men suspected of the cult group. It said upon receiving information on the incident, policemen mobilised men to the scene and commenced an investigation following which through the combined efforts of the police and vigilance group in the area led to the arrest of the four suspects. Unemployment: Nigeria Ranked Second Jobless Country

 The rate of unemployment in Nigeria is the highest-ever as the country reeled from two recessions in the last five years. Bloomberg has ranked Nigeria as second highest on the global list of the unemployment rate with an increase in the jobless rate as of the fourth quarter of 2020. According to a report released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Africa’s most populous nation, with over 200 million population, had 27.1 percent employment rate as of Q2 2020 and had a surge to 33.3 percent in Q4. According to NBS, the underemployment rate saw a decrease from 28.6 per cent to 22.8 per cent, while a combination of both the unemployment and underemployment rate for the Q4 stood at 56.1 per cent.   The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has ranked Nigeria 16th among the countries most affected by internet crime in the world in 2020. FBI in its 2020  Internet Crime Report (IC3)  said Nigeria received 443 complaints relating to internet crime within the year. The crime report stated that the FBI in 2000 has received a total of 5,679,259 complaints and an average of 440,000 complaints per year. The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Princess Catherine Oludunni Odu, has been appointed as Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG). Odu is the first woman to be appointed as the SSG since the state was created. The Lagos State police command has attributed the violent clashes that occurred in Ketu area of the state on Wednesday to rival fight among cult groups (Eye, Aiye, and Buccaneer confraternities) over revenue collection The command’s spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who disclosed this in a statement, however said normalcy has been restored in the affected area.
